Fitness and Health

Both fitness and Health is taken into account in Mount Carmel Secondary School. Associated with fitness our school offers many after school sports clubs, for example a running club and a soccer team. This is already an opportunity to a healthier lifestyle.

However, last year the students and teachers of our school got together and expressed their ideas on a healthier school menu for our community. This idea was approved by most people, but some objected, wishing to hold on to the old menu.

Our old menu consisted of chicken goujons, sausage rolls, jambons, chicken fillet rolls, chips etc. As most of us are aware of, the foods mentioned above, contain a lot of saturated fat which is not ideal for everyday intake. It was said that a chicken fillet roll is approximately 700 calories which is nearly your daily intake of calories, that is pretty much eaten in one meal”.

In light of this the menu was revamped with the help of Ms Cassidy, Mr Cullen and the canteen tea. The canteen now provides students with chicken curry, lasagna, soup, salads of all sort. All these come in decent portions and are filling for the school day.

The caneen now offers a preordering service also. Students can now preorder their lunches at the start of the day so when it’s break time they don’t have to wait for their lunch in the long queue.
