Album Review: XXXTENTACION – 17

XXXTENTACION released his debut album on August 25th 2017. It’s his first album since his breakthrough song ‘Look At Me’.. The album was first announced on X’s Periscope when he was released on probation in March. He later released the release date on his Instagram.

The album consists of 11 songs including an explanation and an outro. X explains that when listening to this album, you are literally entering into his mind on his thoughts and feelings and  that his song ‘Jocelyn Flores’ is about this girl who he knew that committed suicide the day after she visited him. He revealed on his Instagram story that his album is for ‘’the depressed ones, the lost ones’’ and that her death really affected him deeply. He has been battling depression for so long and has never took action to help himself until Jocelyn died. X’s uncle also tragically committed suicide which he referenced in his song ‘Who the f**k is God?’.

The album moved 87,000 copies in it’s first week. Overall, the album is very deep and that’s what X wants you to feel. It looks at the many different facets of depression, and really calls on young people to get help for their problems.
